iWhat this guide does, and doesn't, do
This is not a quotation. It is a 2026 reference frame for what kind of mobile app project lives at each price point in Hong Kong, based on engagements we have priced and shipped over the last twenty-four months. Numbers are total cost in HKD, including design, engineering, store submission and three months of post-launch support. They exclude the things outside our control: cloud bills, third-party APIs, paid acquisition, and your team's time. Real quotes always carry a +/-20% range; everything below is the midpoint.
iiThe five shapes
HK$50K — HK$100K · The Lightweight MVP
One platform (usually iOS or web first). Three screens. One real workflow. No payments, no admin panel, no notifications, no analytics beyond the platform default. Timeline: 4-6 weeks. Buys you: a credible thing to show a customer next week. Does not buy: scale, multiple user roles, custom design, or anything bilingual beyond basic strings.
HK$100K — HK$200K · The Validation Build
One platform with a credible second platform on the roadmap. Six to ten screens. Real backend, real database, real auth, payments via Stripe or a regional gateway. Light admin panel. Timeline: 8-12 weeks. Buys you: a product you can charge for in soft launch. Does not buy: 4.5+ App Store reviews, real localisation work, or the team you need to maintain it long-term.
HK$200K — HK$300K · The Production App
iOS and Android, both done properly. Twelve to twenty screens, full design system, bilingual content, full admin panel, analytics, push notifications, App Store + Play Store launch including bilingual store listings. Timeline: 12-16 weeks. Buys you: a real product that won't embarrass you on a board slide. This is the most common engagement in our practice.
HK$300K — HK$500K · The Platform Project
Mobile + web admin + complex backend. Multiple user roles, often including a regulated layer (KYC, document review, audit logs). Multiple integrations. Real test coverage. Performance budgets. Timeline: 16-24 weeks, often with a soft launch at week 12. Buys you: something an investor or a regulator can walk through without flinching.
HK$500K+ · The Embedded Squad
At this size, the right answer often isn't a project at all but an embedded squad — two to four of our engineers, working inside your operation on a rolling monthly basis. The deliverable becomes the team's output over time, not a fixed scope. Typical engagement: 6-12 months. Buys you: real leverage. Does not buy: a clean fixed-price contract — that model breaks down at this scale and pretending otherwise is dishonest.
iiiWhat moves the price
| Factor | Effect on price |
|---|---|
| iOS + Android instead of one platform | +40–60% |
| True bilingual EN + 繁中 (not just labels) | +10–15% |
| Real payment integration (Stripe + local methods) | +8–12% |
| Compliance layer (HKMA, IA, PDPO sensitive data) | +25–40% |
| AI / LLM feature, done properly | +15–25% |
| Real-time / chat / multiplayer | +20–35% |
| Aggressive timeline (sub-8-week launch) | +20–30% |
| "Make it match the brand exactly" | +10–15% |
ivThe honest middle
If you are starting a serious mobile project in Hong Kong in 2026, budget at least HK$200K, expect to spend HK$280K, and have a plan for HK$350K. Anything cheaper either skips a critical step or hides the cost in your team's time.
vWhat we charge, and why
For a typical production app — call it the HK$250K midpoint — we are at the upper end of the market. We do not compete on price; we compete on time-to-production and post-launch survival. Roughly two-thirds of our work comes from clients who have shipped one app already with someone else and are now rebuilding it; the price difference at the front is small compared to the cost of doing it twice.
If your budget is firmly in the lower half of this guide, we will tell you so on the discovery call and recommend two or three other studios in Hong Kong who do excellent work at that price point. That offer is real.
